To create a lasting legacy for the people of Donegal in terms of health provision, clinical care and third level education so as to improve the socio economic fabric of life here.
Letterkenny Hospital is in process of building a comprehensive clinical education and research facility in partnership with the Medical School at the National University of Ireland, Galway. With a unique patient population in Donegal, there is a diversity of health conditions for the hospital to manage, spanning all aspects of medical care.
Since its establishment in 2001, the hospital's department of education has seen a significant and steady rise in the number of medical students training at Letterkenny Hospital particularly since 2010, when the LGH academy became a constituent part of the NUI, Galway Medical School. This is the motivation behind the decision to build a state-of-the-art clinical research and educational facility adjoining Letterkenny Hospital.
