Eoin Donnellan, Caroline McIntyre, Deirdre Foley and Afiq Anwar Samhari spent 8 weeks in the summer of 2018 carrying out meta-analyses on the use of intra-operative cholangiography, readmission to hospital following laparoscopic cholecystectomy, surgical site infection wound bundles and therapeutic mammoplasty. They all gave excellent oral presentations recently in Limerick at the Sylvester O’Halloran Surgical Scientific Symposium. Eoin and Afiq are studying medicine at NUI Galway and Caroline and Deirdre are both final year medical students at University College Dublin. Caroline was the recipient of the 2018 Professor William Campbell Summer Medical Student Research Scholarship. The Nobel Laureate Professor Campbell, from Ramelton in Donegal, has made a generous donation to DCRA to foster medical research on an annual basis.
